Those of you that regularly follow our work here at Buffalo Bruises are probably fully aware of how much we really don’t like Mike Rodak. Most of you know who he is and also hate him, but for those that don’t know, he is the Bills writer for ESPN. He used to be their writer for the Patriots and somehow got reassigned to the one team he probably hates most in this world.
His passion for the Bills recently caught the attention of our very own Adam Reeder in an article titled “Mike Rodak: Buffalo Optimist” and although the sarcasm in the title may lead you to believe he is actually optimistic about Buffalo, he’s not.
How could this happen you ask? Well that’s a great question because the end result is Rodak’s obvious loathing of our team, along with Buffalo fans ever growing frustration about his work. I mean I’m not going to sugar coat it. Seriously, who in their right mind over at ESPN thought it would be a swell idea to have a writer reassigned to a team that is their bitter rival?
I put myself in Mike Rodaks shoe’s, I have my dream job writing about my favorite team at ESPN, then they tell me in order to keep my sweet ESPN job I have to write about another team. OK first off I would never write for ESPN, they can shove their clean-cut family image up their ashholes. Second is the fact that I don’t write about the Bills for money, I write about them because that is what I truly enjoy doing. I’m a firm believer that a writer must be passionate and want to write about his topics, when you force someone to write about something their heart isn’t into then I’m afraid nobody wins.
Over the past few weeks it seems that more and more fans are realizing what a shithead Rodak has been toward our team and city. I’ve seen a drastic rise in comments and tweets about how ESPN needs to find another writer to cover our team, someone who actually cares or at least kind of likes the Bills, and I completely agree with that. We Bills fans are some of the most passionate and loyal fans in the entire NFL and we deserve someone with that same passion and drive covering our team for one of the largest sports networks in the world. Not someone who’s bitter because he wasn’t good enough to keep his job covering one of the better teams.
The fans know that we deserve better too, that’s why when I seen this tweet I was not the least bit surprised…
When I seen the tweet my exact thought was “man, another fan pissed about this? what the hell is this?” so I clicked on the link and found a petition to fire Mike Rodak as the Bills writer. I can’t say that I was surprised to see it, I also cant say I wasn’t happy to see it either. I’m proud to say I was the first person to sign the petition other than the creator Jordan Hanson.
I feel I should be clear on my thoughts here, I don’t want ESPN to fire Rodak, but if they can just as easily reassign him to another team like they did when they gave him to us, well that would be just great. Let Rodak piss off fans of other teams for a little bit, or just let him write about his favorite team the Patriots again. Point is I don’t know what you do with him, just keep him the hell away from us. It is my firm belief that if you love this team and you care what the national audience thinks when they hear the word “Buffalo” then you should sign the petition. It may or may not have any actual result, but you can at least let ESPN know how much you don’t appreciate what is going on here, so sign the petition!!!
