Mike Rodak is a complete tool. Out of the countless amounts of articles and tweets about how awful this particular douche-bag is, there was a tweet that was sent today that really irked me as a fan of the Buffalo Bills.
So obviously, there’s a study that happened that ranked us 5th from last. Now knowing Rodak, he is the master of pissing off Bills fans to the point where they click his articles in anger, because we know we aren’t the fifth-worst fans in the NFL. But here’s the thing, this isn’t even his article to get clicks on. So he’s just being a complete douche-bag for the sake of trolling Bills fans. The fans that he writes for.
So, you got me Mike, I don’t follow you on twitter but someone retweeted this making fun of you, so I’ll bite. Let’s see what you’re doing to make the people you write for upset on this fine Friday morning.
Oh! There it is, in the second paragraph!
By hard data we mean data on actual fan behavior. In particular, we are focused on market outcomes like attendance, prices or revenues. A lot of marketing research focused on branding issues relies on things like consumer surveys. This is fine in some ways, but opinion surveys are also problematic. It’s one thing to just say you are a fan of a local team, and quite another to be willing to pay several thousand dollars to purchase a season ticket.
So where a normal Buffalo writer would probably point out the fact that the Buffalo Bills have the cheapest season ticket prices in the NFL, or you know, some sort of facts to back up why we AREN’T the 5th worst fans in the NFL, Rodak decides to just agree with it. But the article gets much better because the article actually points that out:
Maybe the biggest surprise is some of the teams that aren’t at the top. The Steelers and Packers have great fan followings. The Seahawks are slowly developing a great fan base. And these teams will do better when we switch to non-financial metrics such as social media following. But for the current “revenue premium” model these teams just don’t price high enough. In a way, these teams with massive season ticket waiting lists are the most supportive of their fans.
It’s right there! If Rodak actually read this article, which I’m guessing he didn’t because he looks like the kid on the bus that sits alone and picks his nose, he would have been able to write something supportive, like “Bills rank 5th worse in fan equity”, or maybe something that pertained to the link he was tweeting. Instead he makes a statement, “study ranks the Bills as having the fifth-worst fans in the NFL”.
I could go on for hours about this piece of shit, but I know everyone always does. It’s just things like this that really piss me off about this guy. You don’t have to be a fan about the team you cover, in fact it’s better if you’re not, be unbiased about it… But don’t be a complete piece of shit to the people who basically read your stuff and pay your salary you totem pole.
